Does Mouthwash Really Help?

mouthwash1Brushing the teeth correctly, flossing and regular check-ups at the dentist are the three main weapons in fighting tooth decay but using a mouthwash can also be of tremendous benefit.

Different dental issues will require different kinds of mouthwash which can be either an antiseptic, fluoride or home-made solution. Regular use of a mouthwash has been shown to:

-  Fight Tooth Decay. A good mouthwash helps prevent plaque build-up and reduces the level of bad bacteria in the oral cavity.

-  Alleviate Bad Breath. Rinsing with mouthwash will temporarily alleviate bad breath. However, it is not a cure for the problem and the underlying cause will need to be determined by a dentist.

-  Clean Between Teeth. Although not as effective as dental floss, rinsing with mouthwash helps remove food particles from between the teeth that may have been missed during brushing.

A home-made solution of salt and water is an effective mouthwash for general cleaning and can help with problems such as canker sores -- but it is best to use a proper branded antiseptic or fluoride product.

Your dentist can recommend which type is best for your particular requirements. Further detailed information about mouthwash can be found at https://yourdentalhealthresource.com/mouth-wash-is-it-really-necessary/.
