Never Ignore an Infected Tooth

toothinfectedAlthough the early symptoms of a tooth infection may be mild discomfort, it is an indication of a serious underlying problem and will not go away if simply ignored. Tooth infections can have a number of causes ranging from tooth decay to cracked or damaged teeth.

Whatever the cause, the outcome is basically the same. Bacteria will enter the tooth pulp and spread to the roots -- which can lead to the formation of an abscess or even an infected jawbone. When infection sets in it may be almost unnoticeable although some discomfort may be felt around the infected tooth.

As the infection spreads it can lead to:

- Swollen gums

- An aching in the jaw

- Difficulty or pain while chewing

Sensitivity to hot and cold foods or a bad taste or odour in the mouth are also indicators of infection. Leaving tooth infection untreated may eventually lead to tooth loss or the dentist being forced to extract the damaged tooth or teeth.

In very rare cases untreated tooth infections can be life-threatening as the bacteria can enter your bloodstream and spread to other parts of your body. This is why any indications of infection should be discussed with your dentist as soon as they appear. Find out more at https://yourdentalhealthresource.com/dont-ignore-that-infected-tooth/
