Partial Dentures an Answer to Missing Teeth

dentalIn most cases fitting a dental bridge or an implant is the usual course of action taken by a dentist when a patient loses a tooth or teeth.

A third option is to use partial dentures to fill the gap and this method has its own benefits. The artificial replacement teeth are made from acrylic or plastic and these are mounted on a metal frame which is then fitted into place.

Partial dentures will need to be removed for cleaning but they do have some advantages to make up for this slight inconvenience. These include:

- Look, feel and act just like natural teeth

- Help to prevent bone loss and bone density in the jawbone

- Prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting

Another plus for partial dentures -- having them made and fitted is a non-invasive procedure, which is a real advantage for those who have a fear of the dentist and dental surgery.

Although most patients missing a tooth or teeth qualify for partial dentures, it is not suitable in all cases and alternative treatment will need to be discussed with your dentist.
